An invitation to try embodiment

Me, trying to surf for the first (and last:) time.
“What empowers change, what makes you desirous of change, is the experience of love and acceptance itself. This is the engine of change.”
— excerpt from Richard Rohr, Yes, And… Daily Meditations
When was the last time you tried something new? And how comfortable do you feel stepping into a different experience right now?
I invite you to use this moment to get curious through a brief embodiment practice. Please know that every step is a loving invitation to accept or decline. Starting now.
See if you can begin to read this with more intention and less rushing. Bring your attention to your breath. What do you notice? Does it flow naturally, uninterrupted? Does it feel stifled or forced? Could you slow it down, even a little, maybe by lengthening your exhalations? Trace your next inhalation up the nostrils, down the back of the throat, into your chest, ribs, and belly. Pause as you let it swirl and settle, before softening with your exhale, releasing tension or expectation.
Next, notice the support of the seat or floor beneath you. Allow your spine to gently stretch into a comfortable posture. Continue breathing at your own pace and rhythm. On your next inhale, draw your shoulders up toward your ears like you’re overemphasizing a shrug. As you exhale, let your shoulders roll back and down, toward the ground, maybe drawing a few circles with them as you continue to breathe, before relaxing and letting go of the practice.
How was that for you? If you declined or struggled with any parts, I invite you to come back to try again and see if anything shifts the next time.
